My journey as a Marketing and communications support student

The past that brought me to MCS

Before I chose Marketing & Communications, I thought a lot about a career centered around creativity and interaction. I wanted a degree that was broad, but at the same time would teach me practical skills useful in the modern world. Marketing and Communications seemed like a perfect combination of strategy, and creative thinking. In high school, economics was always one of my favorite subjects and think that marketing and communications fits nicely with this and is kind of an extension, even though it is a different aspect. I saw a lot of opportunities to develop myself in areas like branding and understanding consumers. It also seemed like a field with a lot of future prospects, as communication is essential in every industry, from non-profit organizations to large international companies.

I dreamed of creating campaigns that touch people or positively influence the behavior of target groups. What particularly attracted me was the combination of creative work and analyzing behavior. The idea that you can use words, images and strategies to inspire, convince or inform people fascinated me enormously. I also liked that the world of Marketing & Communications is always changing, with trends such as social media, sustainability and storytelling constantly changing. Keeping up with all the trends and new strategies also seemed like a fun challenge.

The present in my education

How do I experience group work in direction? Group work has both positive and challenging aspects for me. Learning to work together with different personalities and perspectives has improved my communication skills. Still, it can sometimes be difficult when team members do not have the same working style or priorities. Sometimes a different perspective on group work from the group genius is very interesting since everyone thinks differently. This has taught me to communicate clearly and be flexible while still fulfilling my own responsibilities.

I especially appreciate the hands-on projects where we work on real cases. Applying theory to a concrete problem helps me tremendously in understanding the material. Where I struggled, however, was dealing with feedback that seemed negative at first glance. This has taught me to see feedback as an opportunity for growth rather than criticism.

During the training, I greatly developed my communication skills, especially when presenting ideas and collaborating in teams. My planning skills have also improved; I am now better at prioritizing and managing my time effectively. In addition, I have gained more confidence in my creativity, especially working on visual designs and campaigns.

I still find it difficult to fully understand and effectively apply data analytics. Although I have learned basic skills in tools such as Excel and Google Analytics, interpreting data still takes effort. To improve this, I follow online tutorials and try to practice more with data sets. I also regularly seek help from professors and fellow students to deepen my knowledge.

I have found that I am strong at coming up with creative concepts and visually shaping ideas. My talent lies in combining creativity with a strategic approach, allowing me to develop campaigns that are both visually appealing and targeted. I am often complimented on my design skills and my ability to present ideas clearly.

How do I see my future

It is challenging for me to paint a clear and concrete picture of the future, as the world of marketing and communications is constantly changing and evolving on a daily basis. Right now, I do not have a clear picture of the specific job or industry I would like to work in later. What I do know for sure, however, is that I will be fully committed to achieving my goals, no matter what direction I choose. My personal interest is mainly in social media and sales, as these fields both fascinate and challenge me.
